Black Ops 2′s multiplayer introduces a new League Play system that provides skill-based matchmaking and seasonal ladders for the first time in Call of Duty history, meaning matchmaking can place players in games with people on the same skill level. As players compete in ‘placement matches’ in the League Play (competitive) playlist, their skill level is being determined through various means and when it’s time to jump into League Play, it puts them into one of seven leagues with players of a roughly equal skill level.
When players start to beat the competition in their league on a regular basis, they get promoted up to the next league. The system also monitors how players behave and punishes those who quit matches too often and early. This means that players who are deliberately trying to get placed in a league beneath their skill level won’t be in for a good time.
Each of the leagues in Black Ops 2′s multiplayer gets its own custom icon / emblem. Here are all seven of Black Ops 2′s league emblems:
Black Ops 2′s League Play has its own playlist. You can still play non-league / regular matches just like you’re used to in previous Call of Duty games.

so playing competative is a option,and everything apart from that will be normal,so you will join lobby with various skill level

its not competative whenever i play league people i play with suck im not much of a beast but when i get 70-5 in “competative” somthing is up

the matching on bo2 is a waste, i still end up having people on my team that go 1-22 and im doin 19-8 im ranked 1st in my bronze division, wtf now i gotta suffer because i get stuck with sucky people

I wonder how this works.. if you don’t play with a team regularly will it place you into a team with people around your skill level? I can’t see this working out well since most PUG teams don’t communicate much.

You don’t get placed on a team, you get placed in a league.
How do you play in a party with team mates that have different skill levels

haha just asked the same thing. It will most likely make the lower leagues play with whatever the highest league in the party is. Which isnt too fair but thats the risk they take. what would be less fair is bringing league 6 or 7′s into a game of league 1 or 2′s

You dont. This is for 1 seperate playlist only, the normal CoD ranking system is still in the regular playlists, this is only used in a competitive playlist.

This is neat, but the problem now is that all of the players get spread out too thin. It won’t be a problem for the first few months or so but once the game loses popularity, there won’t be many people from each league to play with, leading to generally lower internet connections for everybody. Assuming they still refuse to put dedicated servers on consoles.

I’m guessing that you won’t be forced into playing only players from your league. It appears to be very similar to the Starcraft 2 ladder, so while it will try to put you into a match of people only in your league, if it needs to it will take players from the upper end of one league and players from the lower end of the next.
Overall, I can’t imagine that it will get too thin. Especially since I’m sure there won’t be quite as many game modes in League as there are in non-league.

I have been playing for a while and am pretty good at the latest cod’s but most of my friends that i play with arent too good so is there any suggestions on what happens if im in league 6 and most of my friends are in league 3 or lower?

That’s untrue, as far as what I’ve read. League is all about matching players of similar skills, not teams. It’s not strictly about whether you win or lose in placement, but how well you do yourself.

So Black ops 2 will have new gamemodes,but will you leave some of the gamemodes from black ops out of Black ops 2?

well i look at this site everday so i know what they r doing they are trying to advance ever since cod 4 all they games are pretty much the same except the color scheme so they r putting some of the old ones aside but bringing back the ones that we love tdm, cap the flag, S and D, domination etc. i wouldnt worry if i were you

The league is a separate game mode. It is geared toward the competitive players but anyone can play them. They have 6 vs 6 game modes with score streaks turned on and they also have 4 vs 4 with score streaks turned off. You can still play black ops 2 in the traditional lobbies just like the other cod games. They just won’t be ranked into one of these 7 leagues. So you can still join those pub matches where you run into a lot of noobs and give em hell. LOL. Its basically a revamped version of black ops competitive playlist from 2 years ago.

You’ll only be able to play League play 4v4 if you party up with 3 others before entering a match, otherwise it would just be normal boring public with bad teammates!

woot! im ranked number 2 in the gold division. what does the sub divisions mean tho?

Each sub-division has 200 players in it.. there are multiple sub-divisions in league games… i quess it’s for making the ranking up easier, as example i’m in a platinum league and my subdiv is Domino-8-6 I can see my rank go up and down while not playing, so if there would be more than 200 players in one division.. Let’s say no Divisions at all.. the Rank hopping would be enormous.. Hope this helped @Odysseyos2040

does anyone know how to get your league play rank emblem to stay on your playercard even after you play your 5 games each for both teamdeath match and champion team deathmatch? because i can see some players have it on their playercard and some dont while not even in league play. i asked some of the players that do have it on their playercard and they dont know either.

I’ve become platinum in this season alone twice, the first time being placed and the second time because getting bad teammates caused me losses and I ended up getting demoted. I just got back to platinum yesterday and am gonna be trying hard for master. But what is that blue division, with the planet?
