Black Ops 2 Weapons Get Their Own Prestige Levels
Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar has revealed that Black Ops 2′s weapons will have their own prestige, separate from your characters prestige. You can only prestige a weapon up-to two times, though.
As we already know, when you prestige in Black Ops 2 you don’t lose any of your weapons unlocks or the weapons level. The same goes for when you prestige a weapon in Black Ops 2. When asked “if weapon XP converts to next prestige, will you have to prestige your weapon or will it go back down to 0 or stay at max?”, Vonderhaar replied: ”Stays where we [sic] it was. Weapon level and weapon prestige level totally independent of your level. Not reset by level prestige.”
So, not only can you prestige when you hit level 55 in Black Ops 2, but now you can prestige your weapons, too.

So is there an added bonus to prestiging your weapon? For example, is gold camo only available if you prestige your weapon or something of that nature?

Gold is available for any weapon, any times. (only when it’s unlocked, obviously)

yes, the added bonus is on prestige 1 you’r clan tage on you’r weapon. prestige 2 you’r emblem on you’r weapon. if you want a gold camo you need to unlock all the other camo’s. (you can prestige on weapon level 10)

when you prestige your weapon a good idea would be not only new camos,but to trade one of the stat points. for instance you could trade 1 damage for 1 better mobility

I don’t know that additional camo skins would be enough incentive for me to prestige a weapon. I think they’d need to give me a bump in some aspect of the weapon stats to make prestige worthwhile. Maybe a tighter spread, less recoil, better accuracy, or a range bump; nothing huge though, just enough to make some difference.

Each weapon can prestige twice. The first prestige only allows you to put your clan tag on your weapon. I haven’t made it to the 2nd weapon prestige yet, but will keep you posted.

well thats a load of rubbish, i have a gun at prestige level 12, im not sure what the highest prestige for guns is yet though..

Just prestiged a weapon for the 2nd time & it makes your weapon platinum. It’s a platinum paint for the weapon. Kinda stupid.
