How Do Call of Duty: Black Ops COD Points Work?
There is still a little confusion around Call of Duty: Black Ops’ COD Points, and the difference between unlocking and purchasing loadout options. How will it all fit in together? Here is a explanation direct from Treyarch.
COD Points
You still unlock items, abilities, and customization options through leveling up. You’re still gaining experience, but you’re also earning COD Points at the same time. Let’s use specific examples to see how this works. For perks, when you reach level 4, all perks become available for purchase. When you unlock Killstreaks at level 10, they all become available for purchase. And when you unlock great new features such as Custom Reticles, they become available for purchase for all guns. This lets you purchase what you want, when you want it. Just make sure you have the money.
Can’t wait to throw on an ACOG Sight on that new Commando assault rifle you just purchased? No interest in the Red Dot Sight? Skip right over it. No need to grind for kills. Save up your money and purchase the ACOG Sight instead. Can’t wait to demolish your enemies with the RC Car killstreak? Make it your first purchase after unlocking killstreaks.
This is just a sample of the options you can explore and purchase, but we’re not giving away all of our secrets just yet.

You still unlock weapons like you do in cod4,5 and mw2. But now you have to also purchase them after you unlock them..
Same for everything in the game except for killstreaks.(once you become lvl 10 you can pick whatever you want.)

At lvl 4 you will unlock create a class when you unlock create all weapons, attachment, equipment and perks are unlocked you then use the money that you earned from playing multiplayer online matches to purchase them killstreaks are the same except you unlock them at lvl 10

u unlock evry gun in a singel lv. Exs: lv. 6. and then u need to by it.. for 4000 CP, that meens non of the weapons is better then other since u get them in the same lv. = Blalance that evry wants in black ops..

even if treyarch did fail at WaW it had its good points and they definatly learned from there mistakes otherwise some other company would make the new COD and yeah its dumb that you only get to prestige six times but if people complain enough that it should be higher they will just add a free update like they did for rainbow six vegas 2 because it was pretty much impossible to get to elite without spending a year straight playing so whatever they do wrong they will fix there not gonna mess this game up after how big its getting.

Its pretty simple really, you gain experience to rank up and reach the rank requirement to purchase stuff. Then from there you spend COD points to buy the stuff, instead of having stuff you dont want you can grab what you like, provided you have the money. I dont know why there is confusion?
