Call of Duty: Black Ops Live Action Trailer
Activision are ramping up their promotional blitz with an awesome Call of Duty: Black Ops live-action trailer that’s touted as “a dramatization of what it’s like to play the game”.
Called “There Is a Soldier in All of Us,” the new 60-second ad uses no footage of actual game-play. Instead, it stars people representing different walks of life — a businesswoman, a hotel concierge, a Best Buy worker, a fast-food employee and two celebrities, NBA star Kobe Bryant and talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel — all shooting genuine weapons to music of the Rolling Stones.
Each of the actors in the spot is also a gamer in real life, including the celebrities. “Kobe Bryant is a huge Call of Duty gamer, and Jimmy Kimmel has been introduced to the franchise by his son who is also a Call of Duty enthusiast,” said Brad Jakeman, exec VP-chief marketing officer and chief creative officer of Activision Publishing. In the spot, Mr. Bryant smiles while shooting a round, while Mr. Kimmel struggles to shoot a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, meant to convey his newness to the hobby.
You’ll start seeing the ad on your TV this Sunday during NFL broadcasts, after which it will air largely during live sports, prime-time and late-night shows.

I like the commercial, but I’m afraid people will criticize it because it’s people shooting each other. I mean, I definitely get the idea. And it’s cool. But the way it’s set up? It’s just. It’s kinda hard to explain what I mean, I just don’t have a good feeling about it in that it will give the game a bit of a bad rap.

I agree, believe me. It’s done quite well, it’s just when there are moments when it seems almost too personal. Like… For instance the smirk that Kobe lets loose before firing off the grenade launcher. I just can see how people would that’s that’s glorifying war and violence. You know.

I must say i might get a bit of hate for this but i was looking forward for this game (still am… A little bit) but it looks like theyve copied heaps of other games. Crossbow: Gears of War. Avatar creation: Halo. Theatre Mode: Halo. Song in this video: Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam (i think). RC-XD: another game (cant remember what its called) but this is seriously pissing me off. There just ripping off other games and putting it into one.

I’m not trying to make this sound mean, but I’m going to break down the things you listed. 1. Crossbow: multiple games have had crossbows, granted the Torque Bow and B.O’s crossbow use explosives, it’s not really an original idea on either’s parts. The most original use of a crossbow, I think, was in Half-Life 2, where it used heated rebar instead of arrows. 2. Avatar Creation: Halo was certainly not the first to have avatar creation. Rainbow Six: Vegas had an extensive character customization feature and was released a good year before Halo 3, which began it’s character customization feature. Again, not uncommon in most games. 3. Theater Mode: Capture Cards for computer. They just decided to integrate it to make it easier. 4. Song in the Video: “Gimme Shelter” by the Rolling Stones, Song for BC2: Vietnam: “Fortunate Son” by CCR. 5. RC-XD: honestly I couldn’t find anything pertaining to an explosive RC car used in another game, not to say it hasn’t been done, but I’d like to see proof first.
My point is that nothing is original. These ideas work and have worked, but the idea is that CoD is different from Gears and Halo, so these ideas will work differently for it (well maybe not the theater mode, not really a whole lot you can do with that, but I digress). I guarantee you that the crossbow in B.O. won’t work like the Torque Bow in Gears. They’re different games with different mechanics. I’m also a little confused as to why these trivial little things are making you angry, like the song selection and basic things like character customization and theater mode. Just be glad that it’s not Modern Warfare 2.

REALLY?!?! Call of Duty can use whatever they want to make their game better. I thought everyone would be glad for the new and enhanced changes in Call of Duty Black Ops. I mean, if your a creater/ producer then wouldn’t you want to make the best Call of Duty game to date? In my ideas, Treyarch can do whatever they want AS LONG AS all the rules are fair and equal. In my opinion they can use anything if it helps gaming.
