Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Reveal Event
The Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer reveal event took place this evening, giving gaming press from around the country the chance to see what all the fuss is about. Below you will find all the main info from the presentation. Take a deep breath, Enjoy.
Customize
- Compete, Customize and Create is the slogan they are going with for Black Ops multiplayer
- Combat Training: training map with AI (bots.) Different rank progression. Aimed at players who don’t go online.
- Character model shows up in menus, so you can see customization effects.
- Basic appearance determined by tier 1 Perks. For example, Flak Jacket = armored appearance, Ghost = stealthy appearance
Killstreaks/Equipment
- All things that are lethal are on right bumper, all Tactical items go left bumper, and there’s now an equipment category for deploy-ables.
- Motion Sensors (a personal UAV) and a Signal Jammer.
- Players will get special weapons in Care Packages – the Death machine and Grim Reaper (chain-gun and missile launcher)
- Napalm Strike, Gunship, Mortar Team, Radio Controlled Car, SAM Turret and Spy Plane killstreak rewards
Call of Duty Points
- Every time you play, you earn money – Call of Duty Points (CP)
- What you used to unlock by level is now for sale – if you can afford it, you can buy it (weapons, equipment)
- Contracts: time limited challenges that you purchase with COD Points (CP). Categories = Mercenaries, Operations, Specialist. Each is attached to certain play styles and in-game achievements. Mercenary rewards players for kills and kill streaks, Operations are for team players, and Specialists are for unique play styles.
Wager Matches
- Gambling: - you ante up and put your COD Points on the line and wager on matches. The top three players split the pot.
- Four new Wager Match game modes, separate from your standard rank progression in multiplayer competitive modes.
- One in the chamber, Everyone has just a pistol with one bullet and three lives. If you kill someone you get a bullet.
- Sticks and stones: You have crossbows and ballistic knives plus a tomahawk. If a player is killed with a tomahawk they go bankrupted.
- Gun Game: A series of progressive weapons, from pistol to shotgun to sniper rifle, granted to the player after kills. First one to progress through the weapons wins. If you get knifed you get reset a level.
- Sharpshooter: Everyone uses the same randomly selected weapon and unlocks perks per kill. Unlock a better gun with each kill…and lose a “level/gun” with death instead of starting from the beginning.
Customization
- Players have a special attachment for their weapons; they can place clan tags, decals and custom red dots on their weapons using this attachment.
- Flamethrowers, sniper rifles, shotguns… everything can be customized
- Emblem editor
Theater
- Theater Trailer coming in a few days
- Recent multiplayer matches can be edited, tagged and searched with Theater. Auto-upload yet to be confirmed
Other
- 50 ranks in multiplayer

it’s gonna be a great game.I don’t know what infinity ward was thinking when they made mw2. it seems like treyarch is taking a lot of thinks, such as perks and the m40 from cod 4 which is great because cod 4 is a good game. also, it was smart to do more stuff with customization because people seem to like that kinda stuff. and you cant forget zombies.

same thing as level progression, except u choose what order u unlock stuff in. sounds awesome to me. and the “contracts” sound cool, now the more dedicated players can get some different outfits and character models that the people who play less often wont be able to afford

MW2 was the worst COD they ever made, all they did was take every idea they had and shove it into the game. COD7, you should know by now that they’re actually listening to what the players want, so you can tell that Treyarch put a lot of thought into this. After COD7 is out, this MW and the next MW will have no chance.

indeed treyarch are now my fave devs. They listen to the community! Its easy to create a game and throw tons of stuff in but it generally fails. Treyarch are amazing, im glad the bounced back from the wor;ld at war fail which dented their reputation. Keep it up Treyarch!

its good because now you can use something else for your perk and wont be forced to use stopping power in core game modes (non-hardcore). damage inflicted it will be fair for everyone. and you can use something else. instead of feeling like you must use stopping power. FINALLY!

We should have a wager match for 1v1 so you get more than respect you get their money as well. I think that is a good idea to add to a wager match. People constanly say ’1v1′ I’ll beat u and you know it. In Black ops if you beat them we should get their money.

I’m not putting black ops down for this but I Would just like to point out that the Money type system is used in MAG and both of the bad company games, which sucked in my opinion in all three but hopefully Treyarch will pull it off.

i think the whole money thing is a brilliant idea but the only flaw i see with that is on xbox were people tend to hack someone will find a hack to get unlimited money so if that happens the game will be ruin so hopefully treyarch made it very difficult to hack
