Treyarch Will Stamp Out the BS in Black Ops!
Modern Warfare 2 was/is riddled with Modders, Glitchers and especially Boosters (Grrrr). Well, all this BS is stuff that Treyarch and the vast majority of the Call of Duty community don’t want in their game.
So, Treyarch have made their Black Ops Security & Enforcement Policy perfectly clear via a forum post by community manager Josh Olin. Read on, or hit the above link to get the low-down.
Treyarch is committed to providing all gamers with the best online experience possible, and that means maintaining the game’s integrity. We have a zero tolerance policy against exploitation, and this is to protect the many gamers who go online to compete and have legitimate fun. Below is a brief outline of our security and enforcement policy which will remain posted and will get updated here.
The team at Treyarch has worked very hard to create a fun, competitive online environment, and we want to keep this environment clean so that the game can be played as it was intended. Users who abuse the game through modding, boosting, glitching or making offensive emblems degrade the online experience for others, and we will take action to prevent this from happening.
CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS – SECURITY & ENFORCEMENT POLICY
Modders
Users who have modified their hardware and have run hacked script or code. This includes modifying profile data to use illegal characters in a player’s name.
- • Instant permaban. You will no longer be allowed to play the game online, and you will be reported to the console manufacturers.
Boosters
Users who organize to exploit the game for the explicit purpose of ranking up very quickly or to appear in a high position on the leaderboards.
- • Minor offense: Temp ban, complete stats reset, leaderboard entries removed once
- • Major offense: Temp ban, complete stats reset, permanent ban from appearing on the leaderboards
- • Extreme or repeat offenses: Permaban from playing the game online
Glitchers
Users who go out of their way to exploit the game to grief other players. An example would be going outside of the map’s clearly defined playable boundary.
- • Minor offense: Temp ban from playing the game online
- • Major offense: Extended temp ban from playing the game online
- • Extreme or repeat offenses: Permaban from playing the game online
Offensive emblem makers
Users who create emblems that are sexually gratuitous or racially offensive.
- • Minor offense: 2-week ban from using the emblem editor, emblem reset to default, emblem purchases wiped
- • Major offense: Permanent ban from using the emblem editor

Hopefully Treyarch will continue to look over things on a regular basis. As far as MODDERS go, I don’t think it has anything to do with making the game better and these punks are just trying to beat others anyway possible. Emblems: So it’s OK to some here to see penis emblems and Swatikas? I’m not sure it’s all “adults” creating these images and if a problem arises and banning happens wouldn’t it have just been easier NOT to make the offensive image in the first place? Okay, I understand that they don’t want racist emblems but I find the array of phallus emblems hilarious. Some are very creative. It’s an adult game so it doesn’t matter if kids are offended by inappropriate emblems. Their parents shouldn’t have allowed them to have the game if they see a giant penis emblem as offensive.

Controller mods cannot be tracked via Xbox Live. However, modded controllers do not work on this game. each gun has a maximum fire rate, so the controller mod wouldnt do you any good at all.
Besides, why do you need a controller mod? It’s a waste of $65 and a constant reminder of how much you really suck at the game. I mean really, if you need a mod, FPS’s arent for you.

thats nice. They`ll have to be on the ball to catch the Helios users though, since their cheats get updated frequently to be vac secure.
Also, right now, the stuttering and generally poor performance of the game on pc is more important than hackers.
I find it hard to believe that they did any testing of the pc version considering how bad the performance is for so many people.

i’m betting it’s the reason allot of ‘boosters’ are ‘boosting’. if the servers were good, then every good match won’t end cause the host leaves and the host migration (being pretty damn useless workiong about 10% of the time) fails. so players would actually be able to finish every match and get the majority of thier xp from the match bonuses. i think there should be some kind of bigger penalty on your BOps profile for leaveing so many matches, like it’ll say on your tag how many times you wimped out and left a match, yeah sometimes there’s a good reason to leave, but rarely. i mean matches aren’t that damn long now are they, an alert should at least come up saying ‘hey don’t leave now! you’re the host!’ or ‘if you stay i’ll give ya a cookie?’ maybe hosts should get a slight increase in thier xp bonus at the end of the match if they stayed, nothin too big,. but it’ll at least give them a reason to stay if the match is going really badly for them, what do you think?

Good job Treyarch, ban all of the cheaters and exploiters. They were the main reason why I hated Modern Warfare 2. I just wish the melee knifing system didn’t have so much reach. I remember when you said that you weren’t fans of the reach melee, yet you made the melee the same as Modern Warfare 2 where it zips to the opponent like a spider-man webzip. I wish it were more like World at War. World at War had an awesome melee knifing system.
But anyway, now you need to fix the servers. I have both the 360 and ps3 versions. I have no problems joining and inviting parties in the 360 version. But on the ps3 version, it takes a miracle to even join or invite people into a party. It’s really annoying. I figure it can’t be my connection, because the 360 version works fine on the same internet connection. So I assume it has to be the ps3 servers. I really hope they get fixed soon.

My point exactly, I keep coming across numerous people using it in the game and every time I see the symbol the player gets reported. The UK flag does not offend anyone (with the exception of the Taliban who get seem to hate western civilisation). The swastika originally did not offend anyone as it actually descends from hieroglyphics but was adopted by the Nazi party and now is associated with racism and therefore is offensive to many people all over the world! how this can compare this to a nations flag I do not know and unless people do some research into the past and learn from the actions of people who lived during the time when the Nazi’s were killing people for having different beliefs to their own we may end up re-living the same fate!!

I will have Treyarch note that the Soviet union killed more people then did the Nazi Empire and oppressed and conquered more people and nations. Yet that is promoted like crazy throughout the game. Treyarch aren’t using it for “historical purposes” in zombies, theyre using it in conjunction with jokey science fiction. This doesn’t bother me at all nor am I condoning the use of a swastika on an emblem, but, again, they cant ban the use of it in MP when theyre using it under the same circumstances in zombie mode. I.e not purerly for “historical purposes” Really, no one would bat and eye lid if someones emblem depicted religious symbology but you could argue religion is held accountable for equal atrocities to mankind, so that in itself would be offensive to somebody somewhere. At the end of the day the game is rated 18, you should be an adult, playing it and submersing yourself in it, even the nazi part of it, if you’re getting offended by a swastika emblem on somebodies playercard you shouldn’t be playing the game at all and to put it lightly get over it.

Ok I see your point but lets put it this way, I get offended by the swastika insignia and therefore choose not to play the zombie mode in the game however I do play the on-line multi-player mode as the symbol does not appear anywhere in game. However because there are people in the world that are racist bigots and people who just like to cause discomfort with others I still see the symbol as their emblem! Yes people are entitled to freedom of speech but typically people keep their own beliefs to themselves and don’t rub it in others faces! I don’t believe in god but I don’t go around telling the people who do that their beliefs are wrong…. Also the problem with the emblems and the game in general is that it is available to anyone, meaning the kids that have managed to get their parents to buy them a copy may see the swastika emblem and think its “cool” without understanding the meaning behind it, this then causes more problems with people getting offended and therefore possibly using offensive language towards that kid which will cause more offence…. thus leading to further problems! I’m only 14, yeah I don’t like seeing crap on emblems. I get that its an M game but really, check what its rated for. Violence, blood and gore, and language. Wait so let me get this straight here. You are playing a game which is rate for ages above yours. You also know the esrb does not rate online play so that point in null and void. Yet, you are going to complain because of the way certain people behave. You are not even old enough to buy the game. What right do you have to get offended at what people choose to do with their emblems.
This points to A bigger problem with society in general though. Why is it that people always are on the look out trying to get offended. A swastika for instance. Are you a Jew? No, Then why would you waste your time getting offended when you can be 99% certain they are just trying to get you to be offended. A 9/11 emblem. Sure its offensive, but why on earth do you care what that person thinks. The idea that people like carson red would go around looking to get offended at emblems is just disgusting in and of its self, and I hope Treyarch reconsiders its efforts to pamper and babysit and a game made for adults.

Thank you rob rob. I think many people agree with that. In todays world so many “mature” people get offended, well christians offend me and threaten me as an agnostic… but i generally keep to myself about it. Its peoples big selves/egos and a general feeling of entitlement that get offended so easily, because they are fearing people who are always on the defense…and maybe thats why they are offended.
Keep the emblems, ban kids, ban glitchers, ban modders, fix the damn servers/lag/host migration.
as of now i think Treyarch failed at this game, and it could of been great, cause the idea of CoD points/wager matches/buying what attachments/equip how u want.
I would have loved to see custom camo on players and guns somehow regulated by rank/points/prestige.

Yet another person who fails to see the 18 certificate on a game and realise what it means. Call of Duty is not for kids, kids play it, but it is not it’s target demographic, it is aimed at adults hence the 18 certificate. I don’t see why offensive emblems should be banned. What happened to freedom of speech? I can wear a T-shirt with “God Hates Fags” on it fine in public, with the exception of MANY rude glares and lot’s of hate, but I’m not getting arrested or anything. Treyarch gave players the freedom to express themselves through fully customizable emblems, so why not allow EVERYTHING? Is it right to say “you can have any emblem you want, just not the ones we don’t like.”
Also, penis emblems are overrated. If you’re going to be an asshole about emblems at least make a racially offensive one. I laugh at every hate comment I get from a butthurt Jew about my Nazi Eagle.

Freedom of speech only protects you from the government infringing on your rights. All services have every right to take away your service if you infringe on the code of conduct you sign.
For example are you allowed to bring guns on plains, no. But wait doesn’t the forth amendment say we have the right to bear arms.
Lastly Black ops is an international game and not all countries have complete free speech. For example the Nazi symbol is banned in Germany and they even get a separate version without it.

Been reading the comments for a while now and even though I know some people are going to say very mature things like f**k you fag and etc. just know that I couldn’t care more about your intellegent remarks than I would a piece of s**t getting buried in the sand by a kitty kat. Modding, Glitching, Boosting, DO ruin the game for others. I’m a decent player but many are better but I’ll accept getting stomped now and then by a good player but losing because some no skilled person decides to cheat to win pisses me off. I like my ranking, I’ve played hours and have earned it and to see some jokes boosting to fly by me also degrades me and others who’ve worked hard to earn our level. So good job to everyone who enjoys a good gaming experience and not just a few numbers. Lvl 50′s in games just don’t hold much to me anymore, so many people got there by cheating in one form or another anyways. Keep reporting these guys and let them cry.

ANYWAY.
I do find that some people are horribly offended at the content of emblems.. But seriously, in Campaign you have the option to blow body parts off. And, I’m not sure about you, but there is a large percentage of people can’t handle gore (not me, just saying), yet have the game AND that option on. erhm… Seriously? I can understand boosters but if there’s that option in the emblem it’s just a series of images that may look like something…but Isn’t (gotta love logic), and the host of the image can do whatever he wishes for it in my opinion. I mean, he/she did take the time to make it, and they didn’t force anyone to look at it.
And on a Final note…The Swastika doesn’t mean Nazi’s or racism or anything, it originally was for religious purposes, which I will quote:
“Until the Nazis used this symbol, the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck. ” It’s not bad and I don’t believe people should be punished for it unless they are really racist and show it through their actions and or grammar.

I agree with everything, but banning/resetting peoples emblems for being innapropriate is flat out dumb. If parents/kids are getting upset over a cartoonized penis, then they should have payed attention to the M rating on the box. It stands for MATURE not MOMMA’S BOY. Right now I have my emblem of a blue bunny thinking about having sex with a pink bunny. It doesn’t show a fat penis on it, but looking at other’s emblems is part of the fun.

I got permenently banned from embems even though my embem was not offensive… Swastika’s arnt offensive!! the way that hitler and other groups use it is, I should not have been banned for using a swastika as my embem! treyarch completely overreacted on the banning system… they totaly knew that people were going to make what they tag as “offencive embems” and if they didnt want that to happen then they shouldn’t have put the create an emblem into the game!
