Check out Kowloon and Jungle in new Black Ops Videos

Courtesy of G4TV, we have two exclusive Black Ops gameplay videos. Treyarch’s Mark Lamia takes you inside the secrets of Kowloon, a single-player level that pits you against the Russians where you fight to gain control of crucial intel. “Jungle” is a multiplayer map that’s set deep in (you guessed it, right!)… the jungle, features lot’s of vertical gameplay and varied play-spaces like Temples and Sniper outposts.

On the PS333 and Xbox 360 it’s definitley easier to play, the sensitivity of your controller might need to be changed because turnging the camera and moving around are much more sychronized , and you cqan do things quiker so you’ll need to play combat training or whatever the game mode is where you play AI’s in multiplayer maps, hope i helped.

You have clearly never played a 1st person shooter with a mouse and keyboard, its much easier to aim, and is just quicker. even if your a ps3 and xbox fan, you would agree with me (if you’ve ever played on a pc, lol).

Definitely… I was talkin to my mate who plays PC intensively and he said when he watches me play on console he thinks I look limited because of the controller be so much harder to play as a pose to the keyboard and mouse. Sniping for example takes a fair amount of skill on console. where as on comp it’s really f**kin easy to pick up

If they allow control customization, play around in split-screen a little bit. Then just set the controls so they are comfortable for you, and then change them in Single-player & Multiplayer. I heard it was possible to link your keyboard & mouse to the PS3 if they have a usb. I’m not 100% sure if that works though . . .

Yea, it would be cool if it wasn’t a map built for campers with “verticality” that adds to the “dynamic” of poor players who hide in corners with their tactical insertion, camera spike, and now two claymores at spawn.

Did they not learn that very few people like it when you cant play a game for 5 seconds without some loser sniping you from a position that is nearly impossible to get and that now is made all the more impossible by the fact that they will have James Bond’s equipment to watch their back?

I’m not saying I want every map to be a tiny arena but the snipers can sit near a bush or something, not hide 1.5 miles away with a Barrett. This is an arcade shooter, not a sim and this kind of s**t just makes for slow and stale gameplay. It probably wont be bad for the first month, but neither was mw2– now look at it.

Well if you assumed I want sniping gone you’d be absolutely right. It makes sense to have sniper rifles in a gun-based game but it doesn’t make sense in an arcade-style game. The game is meant to be fast and fun and not annoying because someone just wants to hide. Seriously, who likes snipers besides those that camp? Who likes boosters besides those that boost?

I’ve got no problem with those that run around and one-shot me with a sniper rifle, but the guy who is just hiding across the map and racking up kills on morons who wont stop running in his line of fire–yea, he needs to die and the game needs not support his actions with killstreaks, claymores, TIs, camera spikes, and whatever else equipment they have that we don’t know about.

That’s kind of the point for a sniper, every single person who cries about it is getting killed by snipers but I have never had a problem fighting snipers (except on Wasteland, but that was pretty much built for them). You should work on your own tactics rather than be a baby about it, snipers are easy to get at. Plus if you look at the level design there are pathways running around the sides and plenty of ways to rush underneath the outposts, will be very simple to get in close. Dry your tears and wait till it comes out.

It’s a double standard, snipers are a well established part of any FPS these days and can be a lot of fun so obviously they can’t cut them. And to be successful sniping without certain tricks you need maps that offer you a locational advantage. Sorry if you are too bad to learn how to beat them but sniping is here to stay. People will say the same thing about rushers, about shotguns, about explosives (that one I agree with because MW2 took it way too far) but these aren’t things that are going to change. Learn how to counter it or just quit simple as that.

Well first off I apologize because I actually thought I might be able to carry a conversation with you without you retorting to insulting me by saying I am too bad to learn how to defeat them.

I didn’t say I couldn’t kill them did I? I am implicating the annoyance of those who hide because they just can’t play with the crowd. I don’t have a problem with shotguns, rushers, or explosives because you actually have to be near a person to use them (with the exception of rifle grenades). The problem is that snipers don’t “snipe” 99% of the time they set up claymores and a TI and camp. It’s more than annoying.

          • William says:

I apologize for going too far in the last comment, and of course I get your point about that but first of all they couldn’t have claymores and a tactical insertion this time. Secondly if they do use Scavenger and claymores, it’s still not much of a hurdle to cross, once you know where they are you can set them off yourself or use Flak Jacket or use Hacker. 99% of the easily abusable factors from MW2 are gone, judging it from that angle I don’t think there is anything to worry about even on a map like this that has certain spots catering to snipers. They’ll fail if they don’t actually know how to snipe.

“everything is fair in love and war”… This isn’t war it’s a f***ing arcade-style video game. Who do you know that actually “snipes”? Last I checked I didn’t see a spotter next to that guy hiding in the same corner or glitch game after game. Last I checked that “sniper” didn’t move to new cover after he last pulled the trigger and I sure didn’t see him taking windage or making minute adjustments in order to take a shot. Do you know why? Because real sniping doesn’t exist in this game, only camping–sorry to break that to you.

If “sniping” is so wonderful then why isn’t there even a gametype exclusively for sniping each other? Maybe it’s because developers know that when EVERYONE hides it absolutely blows. If you don’t have those guys who are running around and trying to actually earn kills then the snipers don’t have anyone to shoot. It’s shooting fish in a barrel for snipes until everyone plays their game, then it’s a snoozefest.

There’s no fully automatic game mode either, maybe constant spraying all over the place would get boring too? No knifing only game mode, no explosives only mode. Hmm… maybe it’s the VARIETY that people enjoy. Durrr. You act like it’s impossible to kill a sniper, do this many people really have such a problem beating snipers? I’ll probably kill twice as many with a shotgun, give me a break.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

        • JohnnyTwoToes says:

Great point about full auto mode being boring because that’s what you play 90% of the time when you don’t have cheap camper picking people off.

There is no faux game mode that you could make up that would suck as bad as snipers only.

I’m not trying to imply that it’s impossible to kill a sniper, I really have no problem with it, but I do have a problem with the game supporting them with open arms like MW2 did.

“I’ll probably kill twice as many with a shotgun, give me a break”
I’m sure you would and I’m sure you’re the best player in the world etc etc. I don’t care about you or your online stats, my point is that it’s cheap, tacky, and adds NO fun to the game dynamic. If the point is to frustrate players then MW2 succeeded with their camp-supportive-maps.

well it may be just a game but its a game designed to be like a war. and also there is a counter to sniper just go around and flank him sneak past his equipment using a specific perk and unload on him. an i know u might not see every sniper relocating in the game after a kill but i do and when he tries to find me in my previous spot i shoot him from another spot, u know why? cuz its effective! it acctually works ive done it enough to know and not all the maps are goonna be camp supportive go a and look at world at war’s maps like dome for example its one of the smallest maps ive ever played and its near impossible to camp cuz there are so many flanking routes and so on. this is treyarch not infinity ward!

          • William says:

Wasn’t trying to smother you with my ego, I’m far from the best player but the point being sniping IS fun for some people, they like to wait and try to find a unique position where they can catch someone at distance off guard. Only time I see that as a problem is if the map is poorly designed and offers positions that are practically impossible to remove the sniper from. Perhaps it’s not your taste and that’s a shame for this map, there are surely plenty of maps that will cater to other weapons better as we’ve seen in the previews.

And as I stated above, this is not MW2, just because this one map features good sniper play doesn’t mean snipers are golden. The other maps we’ve seen definitely have much more limited options for a sniper and the lack of SoH Pro for them hurts all snipers not just quick scopers. I didn’t quick scope, never tried but I still used Sleight of Hand because of the speed to get on target. One Man Army that allowed multi-claymores and tactical insertion is gone too so the lame tactics side is weakened considerably.

True enough, in hindsight Treyarch are able to tweak the extremely irritating things and give us the better experience from a multiplayer perspective. However there were inexcusable abuses in MW2 that just didn’t make sense to arrive in a finished product. The Commando / Tac Knife is ridiculous on regular modes (I play hardcore so not as big a deal but still), the killstreaks got way out of hand with the amount of explosions, One Man Army / Danger Close / GL’s, care package knifers (although kind of hilarious at first), Javelin / Rocket Launcher Glitch (again hilarious at first), those are all things that were hideous to the multiplayer after a while.

COD4 will never be put down though, it was pretty solid. W@W didn’t get enough credit for what was right but there were some things that sucked. With Black Ops it looks like the best of both worlds.

But yeah. Crawling around with a ghille suit, flanking someone with a shotgun. Or sniping with the crossbow with a LMG or a SMG as your primary. Bah. The options are great.

Another great thing people haven’t said much about: The equipment is seperate from the perks and the lethal/non-lethal grenades. Another element that can change in the customization.

Ghost, Ninja, Warlord. MPL with a silencer and a red dot, or a M14 with a Thermal and a Silencer. Shotgun with incindiary rounds and some other bit.
Secondary being that crossbow with a scope, and if with warlord then with the explosive bolts. Camera spike or Jammer. Decoy grenade and a Tomahawk or Frag.

Bah, I can go on forever. I’m sorry I’m kinda going on and on.

    Oh~

    Commando, Grenade Launcher, Red Dot
Crossbow with scope and tips, or a CZ75 with an extended mag and full-auto, if it is in MP and not just in SP.
