You may have read a story that we posted last week about a bunch of documents we received in the mail that are part of a ongoing Call of Duty: Black Ops viral marketing campaign. If not, take a look and then come back…
All done? Well, it seems that at least one of those documents points strongly to a zombie ‘type’ co-op mode being included in Black Ops! Let me explain…
Take a look at one of the documents we received:
That is the chemical compound for Tetrodotoxin, which is also known as “Zombie Powder” and notorious for being a ingredient in Haitian voodooism that is said to cause the closest manifestation to zombieism in the world.
One guy called Clairvius Narcisse was a Haitian man that was turned into a ‘living zombie’ with the use of a combination of drugs including tetrodotoxin. After being buried alive he was said to have been recovered and used as a “zombie slave”. Narcisse’s story was popularized in the book The Serpent and the Rainbow.
Tetrodotoxin and the Process of Zombification
Zombification (turning a person into a zombie) is a form of social control, which can be employed as a punishment for misdeeds. Many rural Haitians regard zombification as an even more severe punishment than death, because it deprives an individual of the most valuable things imaginable: Independence and free will.
Although zombification may sound like nothing more than superstition, it is now know to have a scientific basis. During a zombie creation ritual, a number of chemicals are administered to the victim. One of these is tetrodotoxin (TTX), which is derived from the pufferfish. Tetrodotoxin is a potent neurotoxin (it affects the nerves), which makes the voluntary muscles unusable and causes body temperature to fall rapidly. Because of its effects on the body, it induces a catatonic, death-like state.
Other chemicals are administered that leave the victim physically mobile but incapable of higher cognitive functions. Since these chemicals are used in combination with tetrodotoxin, the victim appears to die, then come back to life as a mindless being that can be used as a slave.

Why would Treyarch send us a bunch of documents which includes a picture of a chemical compound that is known as the ‘zombie drug’, and is linked to causing those who consume it into so-called Human zombies? I mean, when typed in to Google tetrodotoxin returns related search results “tetrodotoxin zombie” and “zombie powder“. The Wikipedia page for zombie contains references to the toxin. Everywhere we look tetrodotoxin always seems to lead to something to do with zombies!
Along with the IMDb zombie voice actor listing do we need more proof of a Call of Duty: Black Ops zombie mode? Is this what the guy is being injected with in the Teaser trailer?
We are just throwing this out there, and you can make your own minds up and do your own research. Let us know what you can find about tetrodotoxin and how it’s linked to zombies in the comments. But, ultimately, only time will tell!

wow…….. I was extremely interested when I saw that compound on the internet the other night as it was called “Zombie Powder” but wow…… I can’t believe it……Is zombie’s really back?????

I know there will be zombies in this game. However, in what capacity? Treyarch could have decided to rip off Beast mode from Gears 3 and flip everything around making us the zombies trying to kill soldiers, which i personally don’t think would work. Hopefully, Treyarch realized this and goes the more traditional route.
On a side note when this game does ship, if has traditional Nazi Zombie mode, or Vietnambies as I will be calling it in this game, there has to be more than one map. World at War only had one flipping map and you had to pay for the rest. The only reason I bought all three DLC’s for that game was for the zombie maps, pure and simple.

I knew all along they were going to be bringing zombies mode back, I mean the game was so popular that a group of people hacked the highway signs and put “CAUTION: Nazi zombies ahead!” I mean name one other game that has a fanbase that loyal and dedicated to some felony class type s**t! Don’t worry I’ll wait…..

its a marketing technique. there is a message as to something in that will be in Black Ops in there, but its up to us to decode it. its not a lie, we just need to sift through and put together the true parts

yea i mean even if they dont have zombies in it, cmon this is treyarch not infinityward im sure they will have something just as good, i mean you may be bummed if after all there will be no zombies but who knows maybe we might have more fun with another horde mode. The good thing is, treyarch made nazi zombies with a limited co op team, now that they are fully dedicated to cod who knows whats in store for us gamers?

Exactly. The new co-op mode will 99% feature zombies but I doubt it will be exactly the same format as last time. It will likely be another horde mode of some sort, though.
I’m definately gettin dis game, zombies will probs b init, otherwise y wud treyarch send a zombie powder formulae to tha press, an that’ll probs b even better than the old 1, plus the multiplayer will b sick, I jus hope that it turns out 2 all itz hoped 2 b, I’m tryin not 2 get 2 worked up ’bout it but I’m gettin sick ov mw2

Well we need a multiplayer beta aswell 2 tell if itz goin 2 b good or not an we need 2 b able 2 practise So we don’t mess up our stats. I’m looking forward to “CoD: Black Ops” and especially on the zombie mode.
I hope we will have online very much fun at the zombie battles.
But I also hope that we can play the zombie mode in split screen, that would be awesome.

Here is the thing. No zombies No black ops! I’m not saying there is not a zombie mode… the multiplayer online looks amazing… but we want a simple request something they call zombies… i will gladly play the online multiplayer just as much as i would play zombies… p s.. Please put more guns/ammo on the walls and pack a punch the pack a punch machine!!! p p s..I really enjoyed all the bloodshed in modern warfare 2…

i dont think that any1 has noticed yet that zombies was set in the world war which was way earlier than when the teterodotoxin apparently made that guy into a zombie so it wouldnt make sense.

I loved zombie mode. The whole reason I bought WAW. But I wish they would make something original and not just rehash their old one. Like MW2 had spec ops. That’s cool. Black Ops looks epic but I won’t get it sadly. Already getting Halo Reach legendary. And I’m waiting for MW3. And you’ll all be mad I said that but seriously I can’t handle a new COD every single year. Let’s see how much spent already. COD 1 2 3 4 + WAW + MW2. 6 * 60 = 360. 360$ in 6 years of COD. I can wait. There is after all going to be 2576 COD games.

i got a theory for this……. US is experimenting with the zombie powder and stuff it succeeds they go crazy thinking they can make zombie soldiers and they make thousands they go crazy and BOOM zombie apocalypse!
